The designation Chemin de more fer has its origin in the fact that the map carriage draws its rounds with this kind of play equal a small railway. Chemin de more fer is James bond favourite play and was also a popular pastime of the English king Eduard VII, who had to state as Prince OF Wales in the course of the Tranby Croft Baccara Scandal even as a witness before court. In the anglo-saxon linguistic area Chemin de more fer also Chemmy is called.
At the beginning of a portion the maps are mixed by the Croupier and coupiert by a player, the following ceremony is usual: The Croupier puts the maps openly on the table and "mixed" these with both hands, after some time turns it the maps, continues an agitating with the maps covered now and laminates it to a pile (the waist). To the Coupieren (cuts, taking off) the player, who sits to linking the Croupiers, puts a neutral reciprocally red map (Carte de coupe) in the place into the pile, where it would like to have taken off. Taking off accomplishes again the Croupier. This puts now a further neutral map (Carte d' ) before the seventh-last map and puts the pile in the map carriage (Sabot, engl: Shoe). If the neutral map appears later, the coup evenly begun is terminated and afterwards the maps are again mixed.
The player, who sits to rights of the Croupiers, becomes Banquier in the first play and hands to the Croupier over his employment. The remaining players set now against the banker. If the employments are transacted, then the bank owner divides the maps covered out as follows: first receives the opponent, who transacted the highest employment, the i.e Ponte, second receives the bank owner, the third map of the Ponte, fourth again the bank owner. The bank owner accordingly puts the maps for the Ponte to the rites of the play on a pallet, with which the Croupier hands the maps to the Ponte.
Now the Ponte regards its maps and counts the eyes. The Ponte with its first two maps has
- to 0 to 4 points, then he puts his two maps covered next to each other on the table and asks with the words "Carte, s'il vous " around a further map;
- 5 points, then he has free choice to pull a map or remain;
- 6 or 7 points, then he puts his two maps covered one above the other on the table, says "Non, Monsieur" or "remainders" and indicates with the fact that he would not like to pull a further map.
- 8 or 9 points, then he covers its maps up one calls this a Naturel - and says "Huit" or "Neuf" (and/or "La petite" or "La grande"); the bank owner then also does not uncover, in this case third maps is pulled.
If the Ponte "explained itself", then the bank owner covers its maps on (it has it before not yet outstandingly). If the bank owner has 8 or 9 points, then a third map wished on the part of the Ponte is spent any longer and is not directly accounted for; if the bank owner has however 7 or fewer points, then it gives ev. the map wished by the Ponte openly. Now the bank owner, whether it wants to pull, explains or not. It plays "after the carriage", if it adheres to the following drawing rules (tablet de tirage):
The bank owner has
- 7 points, then he never pulls a third map
- 6 points, then he pulls a third map only if he gives 6 to the Ponte or 7.
- 5 points, then he pulls a third map, if he the Ponte gives 5, 6 or 7, or if the Ponte fits; it has free choice with expenditure 4 and fits with expenditure of one 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10 or a photo map.
- 4 points, then he does not pull a map, if he gives one 1, 8, 9, 10 or a photo map to the Ponte, in all other cases buys the bank owner.
- 3 points, then he does not pull a third map, if he gives 8 to the Ponte, it has free choice with expenditure to 9; in all other cases the bank owner buys.
- to 0 to 2 points, then he always pulls a third map.
If both parties are served, one accounts for; the party with the higher point number wins; with resembling and ("EN of cartes") the coup is invalid. If the POINT your wins, then they receive a profit at height of the employment. If the bank owner wins, then it must pay a tax at a value of 5% from its profit to the gaming house (i.e. he wins in the relationship 0.95 to 1). If the bank owner wins, then it may keep the bank further, it may then however from it no capital infer; if the bank owner loses, then it must shift the carriage further at its neighbours to rights.
Further rules
Banco
If a player wants to set alone an amount at height of the bank sum (the "Banco"), then he says "Banco" or "" to Banco solo"; the employments of the other opponents are rejected and the coup only between the banker and this is played a player. Also two players can play together Banco and announce "Banco deux".
If a player wants to set the half amount of bank, then he says to "avec la table" Banco or briefly "Banco avec"; the remaining players can set then only more as well up to the half of the EN banque sum present. Even if the Banco player wants to play one after the employments the remaining your still remaining balance on the full bank sum, then he says to "Banco et la table marche"
The announcement Banco solo has priority before Banco deux; Banco deux has priority before Banco avec.
Suivi
If a player Banco played and lost and if it would like to play Banco again, then it says "Suivi"; it has then the privilege before every other player, who would like to play also Banco.
Suite
If the bank owner won and if the bank wishes to keep no longer further, then it can deliver these and its capital including the profits to infer, it says then to "une suite IL y A." or "La Main fits." The bank is then offered reihum for the current Banco; if a player wants to take over the bank, then he says "Passez moi les cartes." Is however if nobody, which would like to resume the bank with the current sum, then the bank is auctioneered. If nobody delivers a requirement, then the bank goes to that player, who would receive anyhow as next players the bank; this must set at least the Minimumbanco. As soon as the Suite falls, thus the bank loses, receives the player to rights of the original banker the carriage.
Prime
If several players Banco want to play, then that has the privilege, which sits more near to rights of the bank owner. (Suivi goes however before Prime.)
If the sum of the employments of the opponents exceeds the bank sum, then the employments rank by the neighbour among rights are to the bank sum reached beginning. Employments, which are not held, are rejected, it are, the bank owner increase the Banco. If the opponents set altogether less than the current bank sum, then the surplus amount is inferred; around this amount is not any longer played, he goes to "outer garage" or "outer chocolat", in such a way reduced sum is the new Banco.
During a Suite primer-genuinly the place is to rights of the original banker relevant for.
Banco double - doubling the bank sum
A player can along-play also on the side of the bank owner, by bringing in for his part Jetons in the value of the current bank sum into the bank. Bank owners and are in equal parts involved in profit and loss; a has however no say with the decisions of the bank (e.g. Suite to give or for the far bank hold, behavior in the cases).
Limit
Chemin de more fer is played in general around high employments; however a Minimumbanco, the minimum sum, which a bank owner must set, is prescribed by the gaming house; a maximum does not give it. The minimum employment for an opponent of the bank amounts to in each case a tenth of the Minimumbanco.
Playing one
In principle the play could at any time (more exactly: after each individual coup) to be terminated, a portion is usually terminated however only at the end of a "carriage", i.e. if the maps had again to be mixed. The amount, which is with portion end in the bank, belongs naturally to the current banker.
