Lansquenet or land farmhand is a map gambling, which at present the war (1618 - 48) developed. The name is derived from the land farmhands, among whom gambling was very common. Lansquenet is probably to be regarded as forerunners of the Pharo.

The following description originates from Meyers encyclopedia from 1908:

"“Land farmhand (franz. Lansquenet corrupts) notorious map gambling. The banker makes any Aussatz, and is totally or partly held for this, then the highest sheet of the map is put left, the next right and then into the center until a same appears as on the left of or right (As, king, etc.). Left applies to the banker, right to the POINT your, and that part wins, whose sheet falls. (map same on the left and on the right) wins the banker the sentences; then no more is not put into the center. With the substantial bank owner reserved advantages that offers to land farmhand the professionierten hazard players, the suctions. favorable opportunity, to use when mixing, taking and taking the maps off off their fraudulent tricks."”
