Monte bank or Monte is briefly the name of a map gambling originating from Mexico, which was beside Faro the most popular play in the Saloons of the wild west.

Monte bank was originally played with Spanish Spielkarten, later with French sheet without the values 8, 9, 10, thus with 40 maps.

Two Card Monte

Two Card Monte or Mexican Monte: After mixing and taking the maps off the players transact their employments, and the bank owner puts two maps openly on the table - he takes the highest and the lowest map of the talon (it is, he pulls the maps from a map carriage, whereby frauds are already not excluded on the part of the bank owner if, are not made more difficult so nevertheless); these two maps are called Bottom layout and Top layout.

Afterwards it takes the highest map off of the talon and puts this map (The gate) into the center. If this third map agrees thus e.g. with one of the two outside maps after the color, heart and heart, then the players in the relationship 1:1 win.

Generous bank owners pay, if all three maps - Bottom layout, Top layout and gate - are from same color, even a 3:1 profit.

This play actual like all bank owner plays - only apparently fair: If the two first maps are e.g. a heart and a Karo, then only 18 red maps remain in the pile, which promises profit to the players, while the 20 black maps for the bank win. If the two first maps of the same color are, then 30 loss maps face the 8 profit maps.

The advantage of the bank owner amounts to 7.7%; in each case if a 1:1 becomes - profit pays off, then the bank advantage amounts to 17.4%.

Three Card Monte

Four Card Monte

Four Card Monte or Spanish Monte is an extension of the Two Card Monte. The bank owner presents four maps in a square pattern as layout; the players set now on horizontal or vertical two-row or a diagonal. Now afterwards the bank owner pulls a fifth map (The gate) and is exactly the same accounted for as with the Two Card Monte: i.e. a player set column or diagonal on a certain line, then he wins, if the fifth map in its color agrees with one of the two maps of the occupied group of two.
