Talk dog also Acey deucey or in between is a map gambling, which is offered in gaming houses.

Talk dog developed around 1900 in the USA; the origin of the name is unknown, possibly was talks dog the name of a Saloons, in which this play was maintained. In addition the name stands "“talks dog"” also for map gambling High card for pool; the name "“Acey deucey"” is just as little clear, Acey deucey is called also a Backgammon variant.

The following explanation describes the Casinospiel.

The rules

Talk dog with 6 packages to 52 sheets franz. Spielkarten one plays; these are mixed by the Croupier, put by a player coupiert (i.e. taken off) and by the Croupier into a map carriage.

Before each coup the POINT your transacts their employments (English Bets), then takes off the Croupier from two maps, which he puts openly before itself on the table, leaves it a distance, so that a third map can be possibly put into the center.

Pair

If the first two maps form a pair, thus for e.g. two figure eight, then the Croupier pulls immediately a third map and puts it into the center.

If this map has the same value, then the three maps form for triplet (English Three OF A child) and/or talk dog. In this case the players receive a 11:1 - profit pays off.

If this third map has however another value, then the play is a Tie, in addition, i.e. undecided, the POINT your win not, lose not.

Consecutive

The two first maps are successive; thus e.g. 7-8 or K-A (however not a2, ASS are always the highest map, 2 the lowest), then is not the play a Tie, it a third map is likewise pulled.

Non consecutive

If the two first maps are not successive, then the Croupier communicates the distance (English Spread): If the two first maps are e.g. 8 and 10, then the Spread amounts to 1; the greatest possible Spread amounts to 11, it is reached if a ASS and 2 is pulled as first maps - therefore the name "“Acey deucey"”.

Now the players, if they want, may increase their employments; the additional employment, the so-called Raise may be however not larger than the original employment.

Now if all players set their Raises, then the Croupier pulls a third map and puts these into the center: now if one results strictly ascend and/or descending consequence, i.e. lies the third map in the value between the two first maps, then the players win, therefore the name "“in between"”.

The height of the profit depends on the Spread, it applies the following table:

  • Spread 1: Ratio 5 to 1
  • Spread 2: Ratio 4 to 1
  • Spread 3: Ratio 2 to 1
  • Spread 4 or more largely: Ratio 1 to 1, i.e even money.

If the third map lies however outside of the interval, and/or agrees the third map with one of the two first maps, then the gaming house wins.

Example: A player sets 10$, the Croupier pulls at the beginning 7 and for 10. The Spread amounts to thus 2. The player decides to increase its employment and sets additional 5$ as Raise; its employment amounts to altogether 15$.

Falls as the third map 8 or 9, then the player receives a 4:1 - to profit on his employment from 15$, i.e. 60$; its employment it receives naturally likewise back, i.e. to 75$ gross.

However if any other value falls as the third map, then the 15$ are lost.

Strategy

A play way as in the above example is from view of the probability calculation everything else as meaningful.

For a player it is to be set only then favourably, a Raise, if the Spread amounts to 7 or is larger than 7; then however one is to increase the possibility as players fully exhaust and the original employment double.

Adhere a Pointeur to this rule, then the bank advantage amounts to approx. 2.4%.
