Trente et quarante (dt: "“30 and 40"”) is a gambling with six packages of French Spielkarten, which is played today particularly in Casinos in France and in Monte Carlo.

After Meyers encyclopedia from 1868 is

Trente et quarante (franz., spr. trangt e karangt, "“thirty and forty"”), which increased Rouge et noir, which formed Roulette the main LOCK means in the German play baths for its time beside that around two fields of deployment. To the fields for red and black (R and S designated) in addition those come for Couleur and inverse ones (C and I marked)."”

After it set Alexej Iwanowitsch, which had already blown up players in Dostojewskis famous novel, at two Roulette tables the bank, its play with the Trente et quarante away, in order to win also here and lose its love:

"“With sits a aristokratisches public Trente et quarante. This is not a Roulett, but a pack of cards. Here the bank must be responsible for profits up to hundredthousand Talern. The largest employment amounts to also four thousand guldens. I understood nothing at all about the play and could do hardly one of the possible kinds of employments, only red and black, which likewise gave it here. To these colors I adhered thus. The entire player public pushed itself around me. I do not remember whether I thought the whole time of also only once of Polina. It made an inexpressible pleasure at that time for me to seize and to me consult ever more notes; they increased before me to a substantial heap."”

The play

The expiration of the play corresponds to that Rouge et noir (S.D.) with the following difference: the first row laid out by the Tailleur (the Croupier with the Trente is called in such a way et quarante) applies not to Rouge, but to Noir.

With the Trente et quarante comes to the all first taken off map a special meaning, it is crucial for the two additional chances:

Couleur (dt. color) wins,

  • if Rouge wins and is red the first laid out map, thus a heart or a Karo map, or
  • if Noir wins and is black the first laid out map, thus a Pique or a Treff map.

Inverse one (dt. Gegenfarbe) wins,

  • if Rouge wins and is black the first laid out map, or
  • if Noir wins and is red the first laid out map.

The chances Couleur and inverse ones (dt. color and Gegenfarbe) are like that as the chances Rouge and Noir simple chances, i.e. one wins in the relationship 1: 1.

If the Tailleur admits the result of a coup gives, then it calls only the chances Rouge and Couleur and never Noir and/or inverse one: If thus Noir and inverse ones win, then it announces "“Rouge perd et couleur"”; if for instance Rouge and inverse ones win, then the announcement "“Rouge gagne reads et couleur perd. "”; etc.

The bank advantage with the Trente and quarante amounts to as with Rouge et noir 1.28% (see there analysis); starting from a certain minimum height of the employment a Pointeur can let insure also against payment insurance premium from 1% of its sentence against the Refait, thus behaves the bank advantage only more 1.00% and like that is the Trente et quarante one the Casinospiele most favorable for the player.
